Spring Lunch April 2025

It was a beautiful sunny day that saw over 60 Salford and Hulcote villagers, friends and family gather together for the annual Spring Lunch at the Mary Agate Village Hall.

Jill, Salford resident who has attended every Spring Lunch since they were first introduced in 2011, and to all the Harvest Suppers which have run for decades longer, said:

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to get everyone in the village together and to see all your neighbours and friends. There’s a real sense of community.”

With a three-course hot lunch prepared and cooked by willing volunteers from the village and beyond, there’s lots for the villagers to enjoy and the atmosphere was jovial and merry. Roast beef and roast lamb with all the trimmings, followed by berry pavlovas or lemon tart and then a sumptuous cheese selection brought a smile to everyone’s faces and left everyone feeling delightfully stuffed.

Raising money to ensure the village hall remains at the heart of the Salford & Hulcote community for many years to come, the Spring Lunch also involves a raffle which netted an impressive £287, thanks to the diligent ticket sales by Lance and Sue.

“It’s a great way to meet up with neighbours old and new and to feel like you’re doing something to support the local community. There’s so much work that goes into these lunches and we’re really lucky to have such a dedicated group of volunteers to organize all the annual events,” said another Salford resident, Laura.

In no particular order, thanks go to Lance, Nick, Sadie, Chelsea, Penny, Janet, Tesh, Jacquie, the Swan at Salford pub, Alyn, Pat, Paul, Sue, David and Dawn, for all their efforts in making this year’s lunch a success.

“If I have to, I guess I’ll come again next year,” jested local resident, Paul C.

Aside from events organised by the Village Hall Committee, the Hall is also available for private hire at very reasonable hourly and daily rates.
